'My God' - Jurgen Klopp's admission over Liverpool's Harry Wilson as transfer exit looms amid Burnley links

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has showered praise on Wales international Harry Wilson following his side's penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the Carabao Cup fourth round - but the winger is still likely to leave Anfield.

Wilson made his first competitive start for the Reds for just over three years against the Gunners, and impressed in a largely unfamiliar role at the heart of midfield.

However, the 23-year old's night ended in bitter disappointment as he missed the decisive spot kick in the resulting shootout.

It could well be the last time we see Wilson in a Liverpool shirt, with an exit this summer looking increasingly likely.

Burnley appear to be leading the race, having reportedly already submitted a bid believed to be worth around £16m.

That offer is seemingly some way short of Liverpool's asking price, which is believed to be nearer to £20m.

Nevertheless, an exit seems likely before the October 5 deadline, despite Klopp lavishing praise on the Wales international.

“Harry Wilson, my God, he played in centre-mid and defended well," he said after the game. "I like a lot of parts of the game but we lost in the end and that's the part I don't like.

“It is not too easy in a squad like this but they learn and want to learn and they are able to perform in a tricky game today.

“It was tricky not only because they were young but because their manager sends them on to the pitch in a team which doesn't usually play together.”

Wales youngster Neco Williams also played in the match after coming in for social media criticism after a mistake against Lincoln in the last round.

Williams blacked out his social media channels following the abuse but was back in the team last night.

Klopp said: "Neco had one or two (difficult) moments but had a really good game, don't forget he played against Nicolas Pepe."
