'My goal is irrelevant when you get beaten 4-1' - Matty Longstaff's verdict on Newcastle's defeat

Matty Longstaff has played down the significance of his goal at Old Trafford in the aftermath of the 4-1 defeat against Manchester United.

The Magpies were well-beaten by the Red Devils with the teenager's goal the highlight of the evening from a Newcastle point of view.

Steve Bruce's side now have a quick turnaround ahead of the clash with Everton back at St James' Park in 48 hours time.

Longstaff said after the game: "When you come to Old Trafford you can't make as many mistakes as we did.

"The first 30 minutes we were pretty solid then we make three mistakes and you have a mountain to climb.

"The best thing about today is we have a game in two day's time and hopefully we put things right.

"My goal is irrelevant when you get beaten 4-1.

"We need to pick up points."
