My Friend the Chocolate Cake and Archie Roach

For the first time in 25 years, Archie Roach and Australian band My Friend The Chocolate Cake will come together with a double bill of music.

It was 25 years ago that Roach released his moving album, Charcoal Lane. The album featured the song Took the Children Away, which spoke of the impact of the forcible removal of Indigenous children from their families, which struck a chord with the Aboriginal community and the wider Australian community.

At that time, David Bridie and Helen Mountfort, formerly of pop-outfit Not Drowning, Waving, broke away with their acoustic folk-rock sound to form My Friend the Chocolate Cake. They have since released eight albums that bring together kitchen–sink piano tales, chamber orchestration and instrumentals.
