A year ago I didn't know what the fringe festival was. I did know what Perrier was: if you got sauce on your shirt it would help get it out pretty quickly. So it's exciting to be nominated for the Perrier award.
This is the first time I've been to Edinburgh; when I arrived I bought a bicycle for £35 and I've been riding that around so I could get to know the city faster. The best thing about being here is getting to hang out with other comedians. I've been playing soccer with Flight of the Conchords, Daniel Kitson, David O'Doherty and John Oliver. And I've been playing hacky sack with Frankie Boyle and Germaine from Flight of the Conchords - it's a game where you juggle beanbags.
It's been so busy that I haven't seen that many shows. But I saw Kitson's on the first night and loved it, and Jimmy Carr's first night; that was good, too. I've seen Flight of the Conchords three times - it just gets better. I think one of them is very talented. I won't say which. I've also been going to Late and Live: a couple of nights ago I saw Dan Antopolski there doing stuff with a keyboard that was so funny, and kind of inspiring.
I've been amazed by other performers' ability to improvise. I've been heckled three times in my career, so dealing with that is an unexercised muscle. Coming here has been a strange experiment for me - I didn't know if my jokes would work. Now I want to come back and see if I can get better at improvising. Maybe getting nominated for the Perrier award will help me do that.
