"My daughter needs to get good grades because I sacrifice my lunch to pick her up"

A woman has been under fire after airing her frustrations about her daughter on a popular social media forum.

The woman shared her story on the Reddit thread ‘AITA’, explaining that she has had to leave work early to pick up her children from school, and that she expects her daughter to get good grades after she sacrificed her lunch break to pick her up.

She went on to reveal how she had put her daughter in after school care at the YMCA, due to her long work hours, but her daughter had suffered social anxiety at the facility and needed to go home.

She said: "After my daughter complained to me about having social anxiety at the YMCA countless times, and after her 5th grade teacher also complained about having to bring a crying kid over to the YMCA staff, I decided to pull her out and use my lunch break to pick both kids up."

She went on to complain about her daughter's academic skills.

Her child’s maths skills were deemed “not good” and when the woman looked over the tests, she described her daughter as “not understanding what the test was asking.”

She continued: “My husband, who is a physical chemist and good at math, and I, an accountant, tried to tutor her on what she’d done wrong on her test.

“But it didn't seem to go through unfortunately. We'd give her similar problems and she'd screw up on those too, in addition to what she screwed up on for the test.”

The woman explained that she and her husband expected ‘top-notch’ academic achievements from their kids. Adding: "We want our children to get good grades so they can get into good universities and land high paying jobs and really just want the best for them as a whole.

“Especially now that I've taken away even more me-time for myself and eat lunch in the car instead of at a comfortable space in the office.

“I told my daughter that she had to do better last year because of this.”

In the end, the woman’s daughter eventually did get all As, but her teacher had emailed saying that she had felt 'pressure from mum.'

The internet got pretty stirred about this, with over 100 comments labelling the woman as 'emotionally abusive' and 'harsh.'

Here’s a Reddit AITA key for reference:

You're the a** hole (& the other party is not) = YTA

You're Not the a** hole (& the other party is) = NTA

Everyone sucks here = ESH

No a** holes here = NAH

Not enough info = INFO

One user responded: “YTA. Your daughter has an anxiety issue. You need to worry about getting her help for that before you worry about her math grades.

Another added: “YTA. What did I just read? You seem to have zero respect for your daughter as a fellow human being.”
