'My date took me to his work Christmas party then pretended I didn't exist all night'

Almost all of us have been on some pretty awkward dates, but have you ever had a date take you to a party full of strangers and then act like you don’t exist?

That’s what happened to one single mum on TikTok, who believed she was hitting it off with a man she met on a dating app before their second date completely changed her opinion.

Jes, who posts under the username @its.jes.lyn, explained she finds it hard to date because of her daughter, so said it was a big deal when she began connecting with the mystery man.

In the first of four videos detailing what happened, she said: “The first place I went wrong was I met him on a dating app, but we seemed to be connecting and it was great.

“I’m a single mum, I run my own online business and in the nearly three years that my daughter’s father and I have been separated, I’ve brought one person around my daughter.

“It is not easy for me to date because I have my daughter every other weekend, and I have to really know that it’s going somewhere before I let you meet her. I have very limited free time, so when I choose to spend my free time with someone – I’m interested.”

The mum went on to explain her date invited her to his company’s Christmas party and she thought that meant they were getting serious – but things took a turn when they finally arrived at the event.

She added: “We go on our first date, it’s great. We plan our second date, and he invites me to his company’s Christmas party. This is a company he owns, and I’m like ‘Okay wow, this is awesome’.

“We planned the whole weekend around it, he came to my hometown on Friday and then after our date on Friday we took his truck back to his place. That’s important to the story because it meant my car was back home.

“We woke up early on Saturday morning, we got a workout in together and he made us breakfast and then we spent the whole day running errands for his Christmas party.”

Instead of showing her off and being proud to have her as a date, the man completely ignored Jes all evening – and didn’t introduce her to anyone.

She explained: “He told me that only a couple of people knew that I was going to the Christmas party, including his parents and some of his really close co-workers.

“But when people started trickling in, he didn’t introduce me to anyone. I was stood next to him and he was talking to people and pretending I didn’t exist. And there’s this awkward energy in the room because they all know everyone, and no one knows who I am.

“There were multiple chances for him to introduce me, but he didn’t. And it wasn’t like he was busy; it was like he was pretending I didn’t exist.”

After the party, Jes told the man why she was upset with his behaviour and to his credit, he agreed to drive her back home because she didn’t want to spend the night with him.

And Jes insisted she won’t be seeing him again, as she explained she doesn’t want to be with someone who “acts like they’re ashamed” of her.

She said: “I had to completely rebuild my life when I became a single mum. I created a very successful business on my own and came back from a lot of really difficult s**t.

“I built me. I created me. I will be damned if someone walks in anywhere and acts like they’re ashamed of me. If you do not walk in and act like you are proud to have me by your side, you are not a person I can see myself with.”
