'My dad gifted the entire family a DNA test and it uncovered a dark secret'

A woman has revealed how she unexpectedly uncovered a dark family secret.

TikTok user Cat McDonald, username @fretlessfeline, responded to a fellow user's video which asked people to share their most weird and wonderful DNA result stories.

In a clip that has been viewed more than 3.7 million times on the social media platform, Cat explained that one Christmas, her dad came up with the "brilliant idea" to give the entire family an Ancestry DNA test, which came with unexpected results.

Cat said her entire life she "identified as Irish because my last name's McDonald and my hair is bright f***ing red."

Her dad didn't believe her when she told him the results (@fretlessfeline/TIKTOK)

After taking the DNA test she discovered that she's 75 per cent Norwegian and the rest is German and British - not Irish at all.

She called her dad cracking up saying "guess what? I'm not Irish at all."

Baffled, her dad made her log into her account to see if she had any DNA matches.

She revealed: "I had an exact paternal match - it just wasn't him."

She said: "I contacted my mum and two of my aunts immediately, everyone including my mother was f***ing shook, but even my dad recognised the name.

"Apparently he was an old family friend. As someone whose genealogy literally exudes privilege, I do want to say that I am very grateful for the life that my parents have provided me.

"However, I smell bulls***.

"So, I Googled this dude's name and he is a billionaire. He is the CEO of a major company and his three daughters work for him, and naturally, like the unstable millennial that I am, I drive halfway across the country to his corporate office.

"I tried to give him a letter but when he heard my name he refused to meet with me.

"Basically, all it really said was 'thank you' because I'm really happy to be alive.

"You all know as much as I do that at this point I want more answers."

Since being posted, the video has received more than 10,000 comments from shocked viewers who suspected her dad knew something was up.

One person said: "He deffo suspected."

"No no, he knew something was up. You don't gift a whole FAMILY DNA kits unless somethings up," said another.

A third made a Scooby-Doo reference, writing: "Your mom: 'And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids!'"

"Reach out to your three new sisters since he won't man up," suggested another.
