I have seen the worst of covid and what I have lost was beyond my imagination.
My parents took the first dose of vaccine and after that my mother had a slight fever and body ache, which subsided another day. My father didn't get fever but he was having bodyache, he didn't tell about that to anyone, thinking that it's just the side effects of the vaccine but it continued for 2-3 days and then he caught fever and ultimately we got to know that he was covid infected, but by this time every one in my family got infected and lastly my 4 year old daughter also got infected. We immediately consulted a doctor at Practo as all the clinics we closed and none of the doctors were responding to calls.
My daughter was given paracetamol and multivitamins. Some of our friends told us that the infection in children is not severe and their kids were also got infected but recovered soon, which was the best thing I could hear at that time. But this hope was short lived and on the third day of the fever she stopped responding, she was not opening her eyes and stopped taking food as well.
One of my husband's colleague, suggested to go to hospital and we started calling all the famed hospitals in our city but no one was ready to admit her saying that they don't have pediatric ventilators and ICU arrangements.
On the fourth day she started breathing rapidly, she was put on oxygen support in the hospital although she required ventilator support as she was having constant seizures. Doctors in that hospital clearly said she needs ventilator but we don't have pediatric ventilator.
All the hospitals in the city had already refused admission. As a last resort, my dropped a text message to a famous news anchor. It helped us a lot as he shared the message on his social media site and we started receiving calls from people across the globe. Finally she got admitted at AIIMS, Patna on 9th May at around 12:30 PM. I was with her at that time, while she was not in her senses. She was immediately shifted on a ventilator and after initial investigation and knowing the medical history, I was told to leave the premises as it was COVID ward. That was the last time I saw her alive. I kissed her and told her to come back soon. Every day I called on the ward phone number to know the status of my child, the doctors were also very supportive and they arranged video calls every night, but her condition was not improving.
When I saw her on 12 May, she was on full power of the ventilator, her eyes were blind folded as the ventilator was full and eyes were getting dried up. That day, after the call I cried a lot, holding her doll in my hand,m. Then on 13th May, she was critical and doctors clearly told us to be ready for the worst. But still I was sure that she will come back soon. Due to a number of rounds to different hospitals, she got lice in her hair, so I told my mom, when she is back I m going to cut her hair and will shampoo it every day .
At around 9:45 pm on 13th May ,she passed away. Our only child had gone. She was a fighter and fought it bravely but God had something else in store for her and called her back. I still can't believe she is gone. Every single day I dream of her and I can feel her presence around. What we are going through, cannot be explained in words.
Now when I go outside and see people without masks, especially kids I feel really bad. Even after so much awareness, they don't care at all.
My only request to them is don't be the THIRD WAVE.
