Vani helped her 10 years old son battle COVID but caught the virus herself. She fought with a severe form of COVID for close to a month where she was close to hospitalisation many a times. Here is her COVID story
When my 10 year old son got COVID positive, I panicked, as he couldn't be left alone, isolated in a room. But I was also worried that it would put elderly at risk. It was a tough decision so I isolated with him to boost his morale. He enjoyed his time with me as we were spending all the time together. He recovered from fever in 5 days.
Soon after he recovered, I got fever (from 26th April). Though my report came as negative, I was somehow sure that it was COVID, as I had started feeling very weak accompanied with coughs.

I again went for a test and this time I got a positive report. I consulted a doctor online and started treatment. But my symptoms got worse. My fever frequency increased, I couldn't sleep at nights, body pains and cramps, stomach bloating, heaviness were some of the other symptoms that kept adding on.
On around 6th day, I started to struggle to breathe and my oxygen levels was 92. It was then when I started getting scared because everyone suggested on getting admitted. But I had limited sources for money to bear the hospital expenses due to no income for the past few months.
I went to a doctor at Yashoda hospital and he also suggested that I should get admitted. My oxygen had gone down to 87. I took some time to think and things got worse. I experienced giddiness and could barely sit-up. I struggled a lot to even go to the bathroom, fearing that I will pass out if I walk.
At that time, I lost sense of taste and smell, and struggled chewing and swallowing so I mostly took a fluid diet.

Those days were very tough, but I fought day and night hoping that one day it will be over. On tenth day with no relief, finally I thought of handing myself over to the medical professionals and get admitted in a hospital.
That night I got my periods and had heavy bleeding. Somehow I didn't wanted to go to the hospital during that time as I was hesitant and I started feeling even more weak.
After the bleeding was controlled, my temperature started coming down on the 12th day. It was 99 degrees.
I felt happy though my body felt extremely weak and I had severe body ache. I fought for a couple of more days with fever. On my 20th day, I still had cough, congestion and weakness but I felt lighter.
As soon as I gained some strength, I started walking everyday and ate complete diet.
I am typing this today on 23rd of May with some congestion and little pain in the chest. But I feel healthier and thankful to God for this life.
