Barkha Chaudhary caught COVID at the same time as her dad, who lived in a different city. She couldn’t be by his side in his last moments since she was in a bad condition too. Here’s her COVID story
I never thought COVID would hit my life so hard. My second child (boy) was born on January 2021 so everyone was happy, especially my father because he doesn't have a son. My mother died when I was little so papa was the only one me and my sister had. My life was going all well until my father, my elder sister and I got symptoms on the same day, despite living in different cities.
We all had severe COVID symptoms.. we were worried for each other and praying for our well being. My father was in such a bad state but he didn't tell me as he didn’t want to worry me. Then on 28 April, one of his friends called me and told me that he got him admitted to the hospital as his oxygen level had dropped down to 80. I was devastated and felt so helpless as I myself wasn't in a state to move.. my lungs were 60% damaged and my husband had arranged all the oxygen and medication at home itself as he had Army facilities.
I called my father and asked him how he was feeling. He could not talk much as his mask was on..but by his words I could figure that he was saying his last words. He was a brave person, full of life and compassion. He said, “beta himmat se lado".
I still feel the pain inside me every second - how could I not be there with my father. How could I not help him..how could I not see him. I miss my father every second. I don't have my parents anymore. I feel so alone.
