'My colleague is always rude to waiters - I refuse to eat with her anymore'

A surveyor claims they can no longer go out to lunch with the colleague they share a company car with as she always ends up turning into a "mega Karen." According to this embarrassed professional, the pair's current assignment involves "100 percent travel", meaning they're staying in hotels, and eating out a lot more than they usually would.

Their business partner, whose name is Sam, is said to be quite a nice person in general, however, her demeanour is said to change completely whenever she goes out to eat at a restaurant, and she can apparently be "really obtuse" towards waiters and other members of staff.

Taking to Reddit, where they go by the username u/Hot-Equivalent964, the frustrated employee wrote: "I've gone out to eat with her many times over the past few weeks, and every single time there has been a problem with her meal or drink.

"She always sends stuff back for no reason, or for the dumbest reasons, and is always demanding a discount at the end because she had to send stuff back or demanding additional items.

"If the server refuses she always demands a manager and gets very curt and direct. I always just stare at my plate because I'm kinda embarrassed. And no joke, this happens at every meal when we go out to eat."

After getting fed up with this, they told Sam they'd no longer be joining her for dinner anymore, telling her how embarrassing her behaviour was when she demanded an answer. She reacted furiously and their working relationship is now said to be "strained." Given how awkward things are now, they wonder whether or not they did the right thing.

One person commented: "You are not obligated to go out with anyone, and it seems that you have some very good reason to not go out with her. Best of luck."

Another advised: "When I used to hire staff, I had a very simple tactic. Take them out to dinner and watch how they treat the staff. This is an excellent indicator of a person's character."
