'My brother said I ruined his engagement after I told his fiancée he has 4 kids'

A woman accidentally "ruined" his brother's engagement after she accidentally revealed to his fiancée that he had children.

The 22-year-old woman explained that she has lived with her 28-year-old brother, Jamie, since she was 17, in a post on Reddit.

Over the years, she said she's always seen Jamie with different women, even when he was in a relationship - behaviour she disapproved of.

However, she learnt to turn a "blind eye" as “it’s his life and he’s free to mess it up as much as he wants”.

Now, at age 28, he has four children.

His oldest daughter is 10, and is the only one "he actually pays any child support" towards - despite rarely seeing her.

He also has twin boys, aged four, with a close friend of hers. So she helps out where she can.

She says he has another son, who she doesn't know much about, who she believes is around eight.

She's adamant that he "doesn't want kids" and only sees the children he has a handful of times around the year, but doesn't see his 8-year-old son at all.

"He calls the ones he has 'accidents' and has said before that he wishes he hadn't had them because he gets irritated when their mothers call him," she said.

Three years ago, Jamie met a woman named Natalie and "they immediately hit it off."

She soon moved into their apartment, and it wasn't long before Natalie was joking that she was going to turn the Reddit user's room into a nursery when she moves out.

He proposed to Natalie a few weeks ago and their engagement was going blissfully until his 'secret' came out.

One night while the three of them were drinking, Natalie mentioned how she wanted kids as soon as possible, and how Jamie would be a great dad.

The Reddit user laughed, and said: "He hasn't been the best dad to the four he has now."

And it was at this moment that she realised Natalie had no idea about Jamie's children.

"My brother was drunk and started yelling so I called a friend and left," she said. "I stayed away a day or two and he blew up my phone. I guess he and Natalie are fighting horribly and he blamed me for it.

"I ruined his engagement and I'm an [a**hole] for telling her as it 'should've been his choice to tell her about the kids'. Our parents agree with him and haven't been talking to me."

She concluded the post by asking whether she was in the wrong, even though she feels like she warned Natalie before things got too serious.

But the majority of Reddit users were on her side and said that Jamie should have told Natalie about his children.

One person said: "It's been three years! If he hasn’t told her by now, then he did not plan on telling her. He’s withholding a huge piece of information from her by not telling her he has four kids."

Another wrote: "He ruined his own engagement by lying and leading this poor woman on. I hope she runs far from [original poster's] brother."

"And her parents agree with them?!" exclaimed a third. "They literally all wanted to trap her with marriage before letting the truth come out."
