'My body is not ready', says Alexander Zverev as he withdraws from Stuttgart Open

Alexander Zverev pulled out from the Stuttgart Open on Tuesday. The ATP number four mentioned that he is experiencing fatigue after competing in the French Open final.

Ranked as the event's top seed, Zverev’s withdrawal is notable. The Stuttgart Open marks the beginning of the grass season leading up to Wimbledon, starting July 1.

Zverev's decision follows his grueling French Open final against Carlos Alcaraz, which lasted over four hours on Sunday.

"I have played a lot of tennis in the last few weeks and reached the final in Paris, where I played five tough sets," Zverev said in a statement.

"I feel that my body is not ready to go from clay to grass now."

Zverev last competed in Stuttgart in 2019, where he faced an early exit, losing his opening match to Dustin Brown.

In the latest Stuttgart draw, Zverev was replaced by French veteran Richard Gasquet. Gasquet is set to face Brandon Nakashima, who advanced after defeating fellow American Christopher Eubanks 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 on Tuesday.
