'My back-up team' - Arsenal fans say same thing as Southampton bring new Champions League twist

There was yet another twist in the top four race on Saturday as Manchester United drew with Southampton at Old Trafford.

A first-half goal from Jadon Sancho was cancelled out by Scotland striker Che Adams in the 48th minute, as the Saints took an important point home.

In the context of the top four battle, United have moved above Arsenal into fifth and have levelled West Ham's tally of 40 points, but the Gunners have two games in hand on the Red Devils, whilst their north London rivals Spurs have three.

It's not the first-time Southampton have done Arsenal a favour this season, either.

The Gunners beat the Saints 3-0 at home in December, but they have beaten Tottenham and West Ham already this season, with the draw against United being another good result against a top six side.

It's led to Arsenal fans praising them for their contribution - as seen on social media site Reddit. Take a look at some of what's been said below.

Negative Heli said: "Let's take a moment to applaud ourselves for that win. Getting back to winning ways after 2 defeats in a row takes a lot of mental strength as well as hard work in playing football."

dlo_2503 said: "I'm glad that Soton took care of Manure, but they should've lost."

Its Always Eboue said: "I remember when we beat them the Artetouts were all *but it's only Southampton!*<- pretend I did this."

HortenWho229 said: "Champions League qualification will be decided by who can beat Southampton from now on"

MegaMammoth said: "They're in great form at the moment. Broja was outstanding today."

MayoDwarf said: "Credit to Southampton though, they have some serious players."

dreadassassin616 said: "They're my back-up Team."

ray3050 said: "When I first started getting into football, I liked arsenal and Southampton the most (Southampton because they were my career mode team every time lol)."

Arsenal didn't play this weekend after their game against Chelsea was postponed because of the Club World Cup. Consequently, they'll be using the time to recharge as they look ahead to a difficult contest with Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
