'My baby's nocturnal - I'm not forcing him to sleep if he doesn't want to'

Babies sleeping patterns are completely unpredictable for the first few months of their life.

Some babies have no trouble sleeping all through the night, while others wake up every hour.

But one mum who shared her baby's routine has divided opinions online.

Alice Bender from Arizona, 22, posted a video on her TikTok account @alicellani, where she shared her baby's controversial sleeping pattern.

"He used to sleep at night but lately it’s been during the day and that’s fine.

"It’s not possible to force someone who doesn’t want to sleep to sleep."

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 223,000 likes and thousands of comments from a number of people who weren't completely convinced by the idea.

One TikTok user said: "I hope this is a joke."

While another said: "FORCING is different from forming a healthy habit."

"A nighttime sleep routine/ schedule helps babies learn how to regulate sleep which is essential for development," said a third. Adding: "Parents have the right to make their own choices for their child, but that doesn't always mean that their choices are right, healthy or safe."

Another asked what she was going to do when her child goes to school.

But not everyone was against the idea, as someone else put: "As long as your baby is getting the amount of sleep he or she needs that's all that matters."

Another also added: "It's possible!! I've done it twice."

This isn't the first time Alice's alternative approach to parenting has sparked a debate, as she previously revealed that she and her children often walk barefoot outside and in public spaces.
