My 5 to 9 Before My 9 To 5 That’s Got Me Standing On Business Every Single Day
I’ve always been the type of person who constantly needs to be doing something productive to feel accomplished, and my morning routine is no exception.
Maybe that’s because I’m hitting 30 this year and the existential dread is creeping up on me, but I digress.
So, if I’m not at my 9 to 5, I’m either writing reviews about films, trialling new hobbies like improv comedy, listening to audiobooks that I’ve had in my library for years, testing out new recipes in the kitchen, and finding some zen with yoga classes, On top of all that, I’m still trying to fit in socialising and have some me time. Damn.
It’s truly a miracle I get everything on my list done, but I wouldn’t be able to do so without a solid morning routine. A word of warning: it took A Very Long Time to finally perfect my morning routine, so you need to put in the work.
The plus side, though, is that I’ve never felt better. And because I don’t want to gatekeep (you’re welcome), I’ve decided to share my 5 to 9 before my 9 to 5, to hopefully set you up for success too. Let’s get into it.
Get in that beauty sleep
Yep. The first step comes before the morning even starts.
I always make sure that I have at least 7 hours of sleep to feel fully recharged and ready to tackle the long day ahead.
For someone’s who’s brain is constantly switched on, I rely on the tools to help out. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 have a Sleep Coaching¹,⁴ feature, which can keep you accountable for maintaining healthy sleeping habits and avoiding procrastinating bedtime. Hello, REM sleep.
Moral of the story is: prioritise getting a solid rest however you can, and don’t be afraid to use a lil’ help to get there.

It turns out that breakfast is the most important meal of the day
I used to be someone who refused to eat breakfast, annoyingly boasting about how I could survive my day by only eating lunch and dinner (do not do this – the consequences speak for themselves). Now, however, I can’t really function in the mornings without it.
While I know some people love a fancy brekkie in the morning, for me, there is truly nothing better than sitting down in my oodie during the icy mornings and having a very hot chai latte and porridge with some fruits to give me that first hit of energy.
TBH, it’s also my favourite time of the day because no one in the house is awake but me. That’s a major win.
Declutter your brain
Who else wakes up with an instant to-do list of everything they need to get done that day? It’s chaotic, I know, but there is a way out.
This is why I like to free up my brain first thing. Some people write out lists, but I’ve honestly found using a digital assistant so easy.
Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 allow you to quite literally talk to it via Gemini Live²,³. I can speak out reminders as soon as they come to mind, and then I can rest easy knowing that I’ll be prompted accordingly.
It’s just like having a PA, but minus the hourly rate. And also, it’s a watch, so it’s not really a PA. But it’s still pretty dang cool!
In the words of Dua Lipa, let’s get physical
I want to get my body moving before I sit down at my desk for 8 hours straight. Because of that, I try my best to exercise before work.
Not only does it wake me up, but it helps me feel more focused and locked in for the day. I’ve even picked up running in recent times. I’m still a novice, but I’m trying my best!
This is where devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 can be a massive help. The ability to closely monitor your running and fitness levels throughout your journey is such an easy way to measure progress.
Goodbye forced social run clubs, and hello to my own personal trainer. We’re locking in this spring, baby.

Making room for some R&R
Personally, yoga is my practice of choice to help me feel mentally and physically refreshed before I get into the office; encouraging mediation, deep breathing, mindfulness, and wellness.
But if I don’t have the time to do a full yoga session and still want to get some of that much needed R&R into my day, I’ll instead opt for some quick meditation and breathwork.
Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 have so many breathing exercises¹ on deck that take no time at all. Like, seriously, some of them are only 5 minutes long.
Not only does this ground me, but it gets me in the best possible mindset to start my day. A mandatory breather, if you will.
Now, a final PSA before I let you go: what works for me might not work for you. What I can say is that implementing all of this into my morning routine has helped me feel more productive and accomplished than ever.
With that in mind, go out there and perfect that morning routine, besties!!!!
