'My 14-month-old baby is so big she has to wear three-year-old clothes’

A mum on TikTok has revealed her 14-month-old baby is already big enough to fit in clothes made for a typical three year old – even though she expected her tot to be petite like her.

Kayla, who posts under the username @thatmomkayla, says she is only 5ft 2in and weights 110lbs and throughout her pregnancy the mum says her body barely changed.

So, when the 18-year-old mum gave birth in 2020 to a baby girl weighing 7lbs 5.5oz – which is a little under the average in the US – she assumed her daughter would stay petite like her.

But she couldn't predict how big her child would grow in a few months.

In a video showing off the size difference between herself and her baby, Kayla said: “Me thinking my baby will always be super tiny like I was while I was pregnant."

Kayla then filmed herself lifting up her baby, who at 14 months old is already almost half the size of her mum.

She captioned her video: "Her dad's side is tall and big so of course she's just like them. Love her though!”

After Kayla’s video went viral and racked up over 12 million views, the mum was hit by trolls who called her child overweight and even accused her of child abuse because they assumed she doesn’t feed her daughter properly.

One comment read: “There is no way your doctor isn’t telling you to slow it down a little. She is way bigger than normal kids her age.”

And Kayla hit back, responding in another video: “I’ve gotten opinions from more than one doctor and lactation consultants, and they’ve said keep doing what I’m doing!

“She refuses a lot of table food so breastmilk substitutes for what she won’t eat. Some kids are just bigger.”

While another commenter said: “There’s no way you feed that baby healthy foods or provide her with exercise.”

Kayla replied to say she feeds her daughter breastmilk and the same person commented back: “I bet your paediatrician would say otherwise. I bet get child services called on you. You could say thanks for looking out. #Abuser.”

The mum then responded once again to call the troll’s comments “nonsense”.

She said in a separate video: "If you watch my videos then you'll know I've got an opinion from more than one doctor because she's a big girl.

“I've also spoken to lactation consultants, and they all agree she's fine. Her dad's family is very very big and she looks a lot bigger than she really is next to me.

"She's clearly fed and healthy and you can get out of here with that nonsense."

Not all of Kayla’s comments were negative though, as many people praised her for being a good mum to her daughter.

One person said: “So glad you are letting your baby be a baby and not worrying about her size. You seem like such a good mum.”

While another added: “People are stupid. Keep doing what you’re doing mama!”
