The Muslim World League (MWL) has signed a key memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia that includes the activation of the Makkah MoU signed in Kuala Lumpur.
The League said that the historical document will be transferred to the Malaysian communication authorities, where it will be distributed to the media and academic institutions.
Both parties will seek to include principles outlined in the agreement in the educational curriculum and make it available to Malaysian religious organizations.
The two parties will organize joint activities including conferences, seminars, and panel discussions. The MoU also aims to promote the Arabic language and culture in Malaysia.
The League and the Ministry will work on introducing Islam and its principles, combating extremism and Islamophobia, in addition to clarifying the religion’s position on extremist movements.
The agreement was signed during the meeting between MWL secretary-general of the organization, Mohammed al-Issa, and Malaysia’s minister of Islamic affairs, Dhul-Kifl Mohammed al-Bakri, and his accompanying delegation in Riyadh on Sunday.
Following their meeting, Issa and Bakri issued a joint statement affirming their fraternal relationship, indicating that they reviewed areas of cooperation.
The Malaysian Minister expressed his country's keenness to develop brotherhood ties with all Islamic organizations and peoples.
Bakri hailed the efforts of Issa as the secretary-general aiming to move beyond the borders of the Muslim world to promote peace across the world.
Bakri also lauded the efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in serving Islam and Muslims, including pilgrims.
He indicated that the League is the main reference for Muslims, asserting his country’s appreciation for its efforts in Islamic countries and the whole world, and its keenness to consolidate the values of harmony and coexistence in the world.
The head of the Malaysian delegation honored Issa by offering him the Malaysian Peace Award for his work in the service of Muslim affairs.
Issa reiterated the association’s keenness to deepen its relations with Malaysia, saying it is a country of tolerance and coexistence.
