A team from Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) arrived in Indonesia's island of Lombok to conduct an urgent field assessment of the needs of those affected by last week’s earthquake, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday.

MWL's Secretary General Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Isa explained that organization’s urgent humanitarian response plans depend on the size of the field presence in the site of disasters and crises.

He stressed that MWL always works to fulfill its humanitarian assistance duty to people in distress around the world without discrimination.

More than 430 people were killed and 350,000 fled their homes after the 6.9-magnitude quake in the holiday island of Lombok.

People have been seeking shelter in government-provided tents or makeshift structures in open fields.

Authorities say aid is slow in getting to some of the hardest-hit areas as they are remote.
