
The Supreme Council of the Muslim World League (MWL) has condemned “the interference of some countries in the internal affairs of Arab states, or their attempts to occupy parts of their lands under various pretexts,” in reference to the Turkish intervention in Libya.
During its 44th session in Makkah on Tuesday - attended by representatives of 82 countries - the council urged supporting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in its goal to bridge the gap and strengthen ties among Muslim countries.
It further praised Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for promoting joint Islamic action and peace efforts around the world.
The meeting started with a speech by its chairman and Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, who praised the role of the Kingdom in caring for Muslims and working to establish unity.
The Council announced the launching of MWL’s “Islamic Jurisprudence Award,” and the “Holy Makkah Document” prize, with a total value of SAR1 million.
MWL Secretary-General Mohammed al-Issa revealed that the Crown Prince was behind the concept of the “Holy Makkah Document” and its sponsor.
In a press conference, Issa launched the SAR500,000 “Holy Makkah Document” award, which will be granted to individuals and institutions who have promoted the document on a global scale or prepared a research study on it.
President of the United Arab Emirates Ifta Council Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah praised the initiatives launched by the MWL.
Moreover, Egyptian Grand Mufti Shawki Allam delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the MWL for all its efforts to serve Islam and fight extremism in all its forms.
