When it comes to assault rifles, it’s hard to go wrong with the M4. This is a nice automatic weapon that’ll allow you to riddle off plenty of bullets when in the field, and it’s unlocked from the start in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. You can use one of the default classes if you’re yet to unlock the necessary attachments to suit your use case, but if you’ve played with the M4 a fair bit already, it’s time you made it perfect for you.
Accessing the Gunsmith allows you to attach a variety of items to your weapon, and the attachments can actually change how the weapon performs. You can only equip five attachments at a time, which means choosing carefully is important. In this guide we’re breaking down the best M4 loadout for COD: MW2.
Best M4 loadout – MW2
The M4 assault rifle is a decent AR, but the problem is that it can recoil a bit much across long-range. A bit more power and steady recoil will make all the difference for this weapon, though we might have to sacrifice a bit of ADS speed and movement speed in order to make this weapon fully effective at longer ranges.
Our recommendations for the best M4 attachments are below.
Best M4 Optics – MW2
No matter what sight you choose, you will lose out on some ADS speed, which is a shame. The base Cronen Mini Red Dot is a solid choice if you want to minimize the impact to your ADS speed, but if you’re hoping to hit some long-range shots, it’ll be worth the hit to get access to the SZ SR0-7.
Best M4 Barrel – MW2
Again, this build is better suited to some longer-range engagements – otherwise you should probably swap to an SMG, or have one as a secondary weapon while using the Overkill perk. So we’re taking a few hits here in order to use the Hightower 20” Barrel. ADS and movement speed is down, so is hip recoil control, but that’s well worth it in exchange for better range, velocity, recoil control, and hip fire accuracy.
Best M4 Underbarrel – MW2
We’re once again going with a solid choice for long-range, so it’s the VX Pineapple. ADS speed is once again taking a hit, so is hip walking speed, but hip fire accuracy and recoil control, overall recoil steadiness, and aim walking steadiness are all up, meaning you should be able to stop in the open and hit a player at long range, as long as you can pull your scope up in time.
Best M4 Rear Grip – MW2
Onto the rear grip, we’re choosing the XTEN Grip. This doesn’t affect our accuracy, unlike the Phantom Grip, and only gives us a minor hit to recoil control in exchange for better sprint-to-fire and ADS speed. We need to offset those ADS speed hits we’ve taken somewhere!
Best M4 Ammunition – MW2
This one we’re going to leave down to choice. If you want to hit home your ability to shoot this weapon at range and have chosen a scope with a higher zoom level, then you will want the 5.56 High Velocity ammo. If you just want a quick and dirty damage boost though, the 5.56 Armor Piercing ammo is still a solid choice with this set up.
This is a strong overall set up for the M4 in COD: MW2, and you can adjust the attachments and tweak your weapons
