A dog owner has been left heartbroken after her little pride and joy was savagely attacked at a Dublin beach while she was on a quiet walk with her daughter.
The woman claims that another dog off its leash, being walked by two people, set after her pup in the horror Killiney incident.
Her dog jumped into the sea to get away from the attacking animal who mauled the pup leaving it with "puncture wounds".
The woman's daughter had to enter the freeing water fully dressed to rescue the terrified dog, fearing it was about to keep swimming out to sea in panic.
She said that the vet was "horrified" when she examined the dog, which suffered severe injuries.
Warning locals in a social media post, she said she is anxious to find the owners involved.
She said: "My dog was savagely attacked on Killiney Beach. My dog was terrified and when the owner eventually got her dog off mine, my dog went swimming out to sea to get away.
"My daughter went in to the sea in her clothes after the dog as she was afraid she would keep swimming out to sea.

"The owners just ran away, two middle aged people. We brought our dog to the vet. She has puncture wounds which is not surprising."
She added: "The vet was horrified and anxious to find this dog. I should add that there was another dog with them but thankfully this dog did not join in the attack."
Last week, a friendly dog was mauled by another canine at a Dublin beach and needed several stitches.
In that incident, a French bulldog was targeted by a larger dog which then turned its attention to the owner's little boy in the horrifying Balbriggan attack.
It is alleged that following the clash, the owner of the apparent attacking animal fled the scene after getting aggressive with the shook woman.
The bulldog is said to have had its ear "ripped off" in the bloody attack and the heartbroken owner was left to pick up the pieces rushing her dog for treatment.
