Mutilated body of man mauled by tiger found in jungle metres from where attack happened

The mutilated body of a man killed in a tiger attack late on Sunday has been found in the jungle just metres away from where the incident occurred.

The tiger reportedly attacked two men who were riding a motorbike near the Ramnagar-Ranikhet Road near Corbett Reserve in Uttarakhand, northern India.

One man fled from the claws of the big cat, but the second biker sadly lost his life and was dragged into the forest by the beast and killed.

The pair went on a day trip to Almora and were returning around 8:30 pm when they came across the tiger. Mohd Anas was riding the bike and immediately abandoned it, while Afsarul, 25, who was riding a pillion could not escape the attack.

"The tiger suddenly attacked us while we were on our way and our vehicle lost balance and we both fell to the ground. I moved to the other side but I saw that the tiger had grabbed him and dragged him inside the jungle," Anas told The Times of India.

Mr Anas fled to safety and informed the local Ramnagar forest safety department who searched the area but could not find Mr Afsarul as it was dark.

They returned on Sunday morning and found his blood-stained bag. mobile phone and shoes lying 50 metres from the road.

The ranger Sekhar Tewari said the body and all the recovered items were handed over to the police.

He also said there was concern over the local village school which was near the site of the attack but confirmed that local safety officers have been sent to the school to ensure the immediate safety of the children.

"Fourteen camera traps have been installed to monitor the tiger's movement. Regular patrols are also being carried out by the rangers", Mr Tewari continued.

This is the third tiger attack which has happened in the last month or so.

The first incident was on June 15, when another biker was killed in a tiger attack, two days later two more bikers were attacked by the tiger, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

Forest officials have been attempting to tranquillise and cage the tiger which has been blamed for the killings.
