Mutilated animals found hanged from trees in woodland behind school

An investigation has been launched by the RSPCA after a number of mutilated animals were found hanged from trees.

The shocking discovery was made in woodland behind Parrenthorn High School in Prestwich.

Over the course of two weeks, four dead pigeons - one which had been gutted - have been found hanging from the trees.

Squirrels - one which had its tail missing - were also found hanged.

The animals are said to have been found in different positions within the wooded area.

Investigating officers say they are very concerned by discovery, and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

RSPCA inspector Jessica Araujo said: "This is a very unusual situation and one which is also very concerning.

"We don’t know exactly what has happened - whether the animals were dead before they were mutilated, or if they were hanged and that’s how they died.

"Either way, it is a worrying scenario.

"The animals have all been found in different positions. It is hard to understand why someone would do this.

"I am urging anyone with information to get in touch with us so we can look into it further."

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
