'Must be wondering what's in store' - Chris Sutton outlines Liverpool fear for Newcastle United

Newcastle United will be worried about what Wednesday's visit of Liverpool to St James' Park has in store for them.

That is the view of former Blackburn and Celtic forward Chris Sutton who fears for the Magpies if they face a Reds side at their 'ruthless best'.

The reigning Premier League champions, and this season's league leaders, make the trip to the North East looking to cement themselves at the top of the Premier League table heading into the New Year.

Last time they played away from Anfield, they put seven goals past Crystal Palace in a 7-0 mauling - with all seven goals being created by different players.

And Sutton fears for Steve Bruce's Newcastle side if Liverpool perform in a similar vein on Tyneside as they did in South London last weekend.

"This was Liverpool at their ruthless best," Sutton wrote in his Mail Online column.

"Eight shots on target, seven goals. Crystal Palace aren't an easy team to play. They're a stubborn bunch under Roy Hodgson.

"But Liverpool wiped the floor with them - despite their injuries, despite Mohamed Salah starting on the bench, despite the fact it kicked off at Jurgen Klopp's least favourite time of 12.30pm.

"Selhurst Park holds bad memories for Liverpool - that 3-3 Crystanbul classic in 2014 was so painful for them.

"But there was no chance of them letting this lead slip. They never settled for a win. They wanted goal after goal, and they got them.

"It's remarkable that all seven strikes were assisted by different players. Newcastle, must be wondering what's in store for them."
