Musselburgh youth charged with road traffic offences over alleged police chase

A teenager has been charged after allegedly leading police on a late night high-octane chase in East Lothian.

Officers in Musselburgh clocked a vehicle travelling ‘at speed’ in the Wallyford area of the town on Sunday evening.

It comes as local authorities issued a warning over rising levels of anti-social behaviour which saw a bus driver targeted with stones in a recent incident.

The 18-year-old, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was ordered to stop by police shortly after 10:50pm, but failed to adhere to the message, instead taking off down Moir Crescent at high speed, police say.

Officers immediately initiated a pursuit of the car, which eventually pulled over after a short chase.

The youth was arrested and charged with four road traffic offences.

Police warned of a crackdown on hostile behaviour in the town following several reports of youths gathering in large numbers and disrupting residents.

In one incident, a bus travelling along Pinkie Road was battered by stones thrown by rowdy youngsters by the roadside.

Officers have asked anyone who saw the incident on Friday, July 30, to come forward immediately.
