Musselburgh locals warned that crooks are raiding garden sheds as break-in reports surge

Musselburgh residents are urged to stay vigilant amid a surge in the number of break-ins to garden sheds.

People living in the Stoneybank area in particular are being warned to keep valuables locked away securely, and consider a shed alarm if at all possible. Police say they can supply these.

Police in East Lothian say they've seen a "spate of break-ins" over the last week with valuables such as bikes stolen from different addresses.

In a warning to residents, they add: "Following a spate of break-ins to sheds over the past week in the Stoneybank area of Musselburgh, we are asking everyone to please ensure you secure your shed, garage and outbuildings.

"Valuable bikes and other items have been stolen from different addresses and we are enquiring into these reports.

"If you do have valuable items in your shed, please consider a shed alarm which is inexpensive, can be bought online and easy to install.

"As part of our Policing Commitments to tackle acquisitive crime we have purchased a number of shed alarms which we can supply and fit free of charge. These are for elderly and vulnerable residents who reside in the area and will form part of a crime prevention survey."

Anyone who knows somebody who could benefit from a shed alarm should contact police at MusselburghWestCPT@scotland.pnn.police.uk.
