Musselburgh Ladies Day warning as police say town will be 'exceptionally busy'

Musselburgh will be "exceptionally busy" on Friday as Ladies Day arrives at the town's racecourse, police have warned.

Thousands of race fans will flock to the venue for the sold-out showpiece event – one of the biggest days out on the calendar – which is this year called Stobo Castle Ladies Day 2021.

Officers are urging motorists to avoid the area if at all possibly with heavy traffic likely throughout the day, particularly around 5pm.

They say there will be a "significant police presence" in the town and within the event arena at the racecourse.

In a message to the public, East Lothian Police said: "This is a reminder that the races are taking place tomorrow (Friday) and traffic in Musselburgh will be exceptionally busy. If you can avoid the area or take a different route through the Town this will speed up your journey.

"Traffic will build from around 10am and the get busier again around 5pm.

"If you are attending the race course please be aware that there is an increased search system in place and it may take longer than usual to access the event.

"Alcohol is not allowed to be taken into the grounds and there is a bylaw preventing alcohol being consumed in a public place.

"There will be a significant police presence in the Town and within the event arena to ensure you all have a fantastic and safe day."
