Musselburgh anti-social hotspots pinpointed as group of youths intimidate public

A large group of youths have been "intimidating" members of the public and vandalising property in Musselburgh.

Police say they've identified problem areas on North High Street, Fishers Wynd and near the Brunton Theatre.

Dealing with anti-social behaviour in these locations has become a "policing priority" for officers, and they say they have been conducting foot patrols in a bid to catch those responsible and deter further bad behaviour.

Officers say residents and businesses are suffering at the hands of this group, with disruption regularly being seen through the day and into the night.

East Lothian Police say: "PC Hughes is a Musselburgh Community Policing Team officer.

"Part of his role is to carry out regular foot patrols and the areas he covers can vary. This is due to targeting locations where problems have been identified.

"At present youths congregating around the Brunton Hall, North High Street and Fishers Wynd are causing anti-social behaviour. This is taking place both during the day and into the evening.

"Local residents and businesses are suffering the issues this particular group are causing, ranging from vandalism to property and intimidating members of the public.

"Enquiry is ongoing to identify the group, identify offences and charge and report where appropriate.

"Can parents please ask their children where they intend to go/where they have been and with who to satisfythemselves that they are not involved in any of the above mentioned behaviour.

"PC Hughes along with his colleagues will continue to patrol these areas over the coming weeks."

Police say they were also called to Musselburgh Racecourse at the weekend, with damage and littering reported in the area. They say they'll continue working with those at the racecourse to identify offenders.
