PRAYAGRAJ: Under the banner of Hindu Muslim Sadbhav Manch, a group of Muslims on Friday welcomed the Lord Jagannath Shobha Yatra at Bahadurganj area in old city and offered halwa and potable water to devotees accompanying shobha yatra .
President of Hindu Muslim Sadbhav manch, Irshad Ullah told TOI, “Ganga-Jamuni tehjeeb is the identity of our country and to maintain the communal harmony, a group of 6-8 Muslims of the city have decided to offer a red carpet welcome to Lord Jagannath Yatra that was taken out in city on Friday”.
The group members welcomed the Lord Jagannath yatra at Bahadurganj road and distributed halwa, ‘nimbu-pani’ and potable water to devotees who were accompanying the yatra. He, however, said “Taking care of each other is our culture and tradition and we have been following it since ages”.
Meanwhile, Lord Jagannath rath yatra was taken out in city under the banner of Shri Jagannath Ji Mahotsav Samiti with full religious fervour here on Friday.
Scores of devotees participated in the rath yatra. The citizens of the city also sprinkled flower petals on the devotees and tableaus and welcomed the yatra.
The rath yatra passed through Agrasen crossing, SC basuroad, Chameli Bai inn, Johnstonganj, Ghantaghar, Chowk, Loknath, Bahadurganj,Sulaki crossing, Ram Bhawan, Mutthiganj, Hatia, Bas Mandi, Satti chauraha ,Balua ghat, katghar and culminated at Kashi Rajnagar located Prayageshwar Jagannath temple.
Senior police officials have made elaborate security arrangements on the route of Shobha yatra and forces were being deployed accordingly.
