Muslim man forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, 2 held in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district

UJJAIN: Two men were arrested in Ujjain district on Sunday for forcing a Muslim scrap dealer to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The duo had taken a video of the incident and shared it on social media, which led police to them.

The incident took place in a region around 60km from Ujjain city on Saturday. Scrap dealer Abdul Rashid, a resident of Kesharpura in Mahidpur, was passing through Sekali village to purchase scrap from households when he was accosted by two men, Mahidpur SDOP RK Rai told TOI.

The duo – identified by police as Ishwar Singh and Kamal Singh – refused to let him do business with villagers and allegedly ransacked his loading vehicle.

In his complaint, Rashid says he tried to get away from there, but the accused followed him on a motorcycle and again intercepted him. They allegedly hurled abuses at him and insisted that he say ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Rai said a case was registered against Ishwar, Kamal and 3-4 others for wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt, promoting enmity on grounds of religion and committing an act that could incite any class or community to commit an offence against another. Ishwar and Kamal were produced in court, which remanded them in police custody for a day.
