An official affiliated with the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood was shot and killed by unidentified attackers late Sunday in the southeastern border town of Shebaa.
Mohammed Jarrar, who was in charge of Public Relations Department of al-Jamaa al-Islamiyya political party as well as a medical center in the area, was killed as unidentified individuals shot him at the door of the dispensary he ran in the village, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported.
It added that immediately after the attack, security forces started the investigations into the incident, while the Lebanese army cordoned off the crime scene and began the search for the criminals who had fled to an unknown destination.
Security sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that Jarrar received a phone call at round 11 p.m. on Sunday from someone, claiming to represent an “Australian charity” that wants to donate to the center. The caller asked Jarrar to photograph the dispensary from the outside. When the latter went out, a sniper targeted him with an explosive bullet. A passing car drove the killer away.
The sources said that Jarrar had received threats at various times this year, including some videos threatening to kill his son. He informed the security forces, who investigated the matter without reaching any results.
