An Armadale musician is hosting a Facebook Live fundraiser for Five Sisters Zoo later this month.
Cailean McLean, from Armadale, will perform a cabaret show on Sunday, July 12, between 7pm and 8pm in a bid to raise cash for the zoo in West Calder.
Five Sisters opened their doors again on June 29 and Cailean is hoping he can play his part in helping the zoo make up some of the funds they lost by being closed for three months.
Speaking to the Courier, he said: “Five Sisters has obviously lost a lot of income with the lack of visitors over the past few months which have really been peak income months.
“It’s also the time of the year where they would hope to build up reserves for the winter when things are a bit quieter and they’ve lost the ability to do that so it’s just about trying to help them out as much as possible.
“It will be an online vocal cabaret streamed for free through Facebook Live and people can donate during the performance by clicking on the link that will be provided.
“Some of the songs will have an animal theme - I think that’s only right given it’s a fundraiser for a zoo.
“Hopefully it will just be some fun and we can raise a bit of cash for Five Sisters.”
He added: “I feel that it’s important to do as much as you can to help support the local community during this time. I think that’s been a big positive out of all of this, there’s been a real sense of community and wanting to help each other out.”
