Karl Wallinger Musician and songwriter

Karl Wallinger, the talented musician known for his work with World Party and the Waterboys, has passed away at the age of 66. While the cause of death has not been disclosed, Wallinger had previously suffered a brain aneurysm in 2001 that had temporarily halted his career.

Wallinger founded World Party in 1986 after departing from the Waterboys. The band's debut album, 'Private Revolution,' released in 1987, achieved unexpected success with the hit single 'Ship of Fools.' Over the years, World Party released a total of five albums, with notable tracks like 'Put The Message In the Box' and 'Is It Like Today?'

Despite facing health challenges, Wallinger made a comeback with World Party in 2006 and continued to tour until 2015. In a recent interview in 2022, he mentioned plans for the band to reunite and embark on a new tour.

Prior to his time with World Party, Wallinger was a member of the Waterboys, contributing as a multi-instrumentalist on the band's early albums. He left the Waterboys after the release of 'This Is the Sea' in 1985 to pursue his own musical endeavors.

Wallinger's musical talents extended beyond his own projects. He worked on various collaborations, including contributing to Sinead O'Connor's debut album and serving as the musical director for the film 'Reality Bites' in 1994.

Throughout his career, Wallinger's contributions to the music industry were widely recognized. His impact on the music scene was acknowledged by fellow musicians, with Waterboys leader Mike Scott describing him as 'one of the finest musicians I've ever known.'

Wallinger is survived by his wife Suzie Zamit, two children, and two grandchildren. His legacy as a musician and his influence on the music world will be remembered by fans and peers alike.
