Musician Daniele Sepe headlines Italian Festival

Italian musician Daniele Sepe will bring his quartet to Bangkok for two nights of Italian jazz next week. They will perform at the Music Hall of Chulalongkorn University, Phaya Thai Road, on April 3 at 7pm, and then at The Living Room of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit on April 4 at 8pm.

Held in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy, this is a rare chance to experience the music of the 58-year-old composer and saxophonist, renowned as one of the most irreverent and iconoclastic musicians on the Italian jazz scene today.

While rooted in improvisational jazz, Daniele finds inspiration in everything from funk to Mediterranean melodies to rap.

It's rather difficult to precisely define his music, as it's always in the balance between reggae, folk, world music, jazz, rock, fusion, blues and classical.

A graduate of the Conservatory of Naples, with a degree in flute performance, Daniele took up the saxophone after becoming increasingly interested in jazz. Following a long period as a sideman for bands led by Gino Paoli, Teresa De Sio and Roberto Murolo, he launched his solo career in the early 90s.

His debut solo album, Mulamusica -- Il Parco, was compared to the innovative recordings of Frank Zappa and Nino Rota, while music from his 1994 album, Vite Perdite, was used by filmmaker Mario Martone for his film Amore Molesto.

Both shows are part of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2018 and there is no admission fee. Reservations can be made via eventbrite.com for the first concert or by calling 02-649-8353 for the second.
