Music Weekly podcast: the gory, glory days of NME

Welcome on board: this week Alexis is joined by Kieran Yates and Alex Needham.

We're heading back to the 70s, to a time when you could kick the working day off with a spliff and wander around work with your private parts hanging out … at least, if you worked at NME. Pat Long, the author of The History of the NME: High Times and Low Lives at the World's Most Famous Music Magazine talks to Tim Jonze as the music paper celebrates its 60th birthday.

Singles club, where we unpack three new releases and test them to destruction, features tracks from Rustie, Rufus Wainwright and Poliça.

Nashville soft-rockers the Silver Seas have been piling up the plaudits since their album Chateau Revenge came out in the UK in 2010. Danny Baker even reckons they're the best band in the world. They were over in the UK this week, and popped in to the pod to be quizzed by Michael Hann.

Thanks for listening – and do get in touch, especially if you can help Alexis with the history of the Freebird heckle.
