Music Weekly podcast: Joey Barton talks about growing up with the Smiths

Welcome to Music Weekly. Joining Alexis in the studio are Kieran Yates and Rebecca Nicholson.

QPR captain Joey Barton was introduced to the Smiths by his uncle – a man with the cover of Meat is Murder stuck to the front of his freezer. Joey came in to the Guardian to talk to Michael Hann about how Morrissey's music speaks to him, the problem with the Brits and why big gigs don't work.

Singles Club features tracks from Jessie Ware, Usher & Diplo and a ferocious effort from Tom Jones.

We hear some of your thoughts on the Brits, posted after our show last week. And Alexis hooks up with Jordan Gatesmith of Howler, a man too young to go backstage at his own gigs. It's not easy to escape Minnesota, but Howler have made it all the way over to the UK, signed up by Rough Trade – but how do they like being called "the grunge Strokes"?

Thanks for listening, and if you've got anything to add, please post away.
