Music Weekly: Jason Pierce of Spiritualized

In the studio with Alexis this week are the Guardian's New Band of the Day columnist Paul Lester and Time Out's music writer Kim Taylor-Bennett. They listen to three new tracks: Jenni by Woman's Hour, Where Has Everybody Gone by Mozart Parties and Third Wave by Work Drugs.

Ahead of Spiritualized's gig at Other Voices festival, which is being streamed live on guardian.co.uk/music this Sunday, Tim Jonze pops round to Jason Pierce's house to find him putting the finishing touches to the band's new album in his living-room studio. There's much talk of what the new album (as yet untitled and due in January) sounds like, and why Jason has been locked in his house for the past year.

Finally, we tell you all you need to know about Americana as expert Laura Barton gives us her guide to the genre.
