Music producer died on Australia diving trip which is now subject of police probe

A music producer and sound engineer died on a diving trip while on tour in Australia.

Suffolk-born Karl Bareham, 37, died on September 24 2019, an inquest in Ipswich heard on Tuesday.

He had been living in Canada and was on tour in Australia with Canadian musician Dallas Green, who records under the name City and Colour and is a vocalist and guitarist in the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire.

Christopher Long, assistant Suffolk coroner, said: "It's understood that Mr Bareham was on a diving trip with friends when an incident took place.

"The diving equipment has been seized by Australian police and I understand that an investigation is ongoing.

"Criminal proceedings are being considered by SafeWork New South Wales (the state's workplace health and safety regulator) in Australia.

"It's therefore requested that the inquest is formally suspended until March 11 2021."

Mr Long said that, having considered the circumstances, it was "appropriate" to do so.

A statement on the City and Colour Facebook page, in September 2019, said: "Our lives are forever changed.

"Three days ago we lost our dear friend and brother Karl Bareham to a tragic accident.

"He was so loved and such an important part of this family - my compatriot for 16 years, next to me in the studio and on the road.

"After a difficult few days we made the decision to continue on with the shows.

"He would want us to be together during this terrible time.

"We'll carry on in celebration of our beautiful friend.

"We love you horse."
