Summer music festivals could be scrapped again this year as the pandemic continues to cause massive disruption to ordinary life.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said it’s still too early to make plans for large public events, nearly one year since they were first put on hold.
Music and the arts have been devastated by the impact of Covid-19 and fans are desperate to look forward to seeing their favourite acts again.
Organisers of TRNSMT Festival are promoting their 2021 festival on social media, and are “optimistic” it can happen on Glasgow Green this July.
The Rewind Festival is advertising dates for July and August, promising a “party like no other”.
Sturgeon was asked if it is “pointless” to look forward to a return to summer gatherings during today’s Scottish Government covid briefing.
She said the vaccine will be “well under way” by then, and summer conditions can make it harder for the virus to thrive.
But Sturgeon said: “Equally we are still very much in the grip of a global pandemic and none of these things in and of themselves are going to necessarily by summer this year create a completely back-to-normal environment.
“Organisations have to be aware of that.”
Referring to any likely large-scale events this summer going ahead, she said: “The honest answer to that is no, I can’t say that with certainty.
“I hope by then we’ll have restored a lot of normality to life.
“It is going to be a little while longer before big scale events become possible again.”
