KANCHANABURI: Floating restaurants and discotheques in the province have been ordered to temporarily shelve all entertainment, because the country is in mourning for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol.

Krit Mangkarothai, an assistant to the Muang district chief, gave all raft operators verbal and written instructions on Tuesday night to cancel all music and other shows from Friday to Oct 29.

The order is in line with the Interior Ministry's request for cooperation from all entertainment venues during the month of the late King's cremation.

They can still serve food to customers, but other activities should be put on hold, Mr Krit said.

the floating restaurants and discotheques on the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai rivers are a trademark of tourism in Kanchanaburi. However, people living along the two rivers frequently complain about the loud noise eminating from them.
