Mushroom of the Week: Think of it as a bonus haul this week

Readers submitted so many mushroom notes that I am doing a special Wednesday Mushroom of the Week, too.

Tim Baker sent photos of his niece Maeve Baker and “her recent haul of some chicken of the woods.”

“Maeve enjoys fishing, hiking, birding, and exploring the woods with her dad and uncles,” he emailed. “She is on her way to becoming quite the outdoors person, and our family could not be more proud.”

In my world, that is the kind of person who is worth a second photo. Tempted to think of it as the tree of knowledge.

Normally, MOTW, the celebration of mushrooms around Chicago outdoors, runs as apt in the special two-page outdoors section in the Sun-Times Sports Saturday. But so many interesting submissions have been coming this fall that I added a special Wednesday edition, at least for this week.
