Nov. 08--A museum dedicated to the story of the San Fernando Valley will hold a grand opening Saturday in Northridge, offering the public a glimpse at some of its collections and exhibits.
The Museum of the San Fernando Valley, located at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Wilbur Avenue, offers an exhibit on Wings over Wendy's, a veterans group based in West Hills. The space also houses the images of American photographer Leigh Wiener, who took pictures of musicians, athletes and other celebrities.
Other exhibits at the museum feature the Valley's architecture, newspaper coverage and ties to the entertainment industry.
The museum was formed in 2005. But for the last nine years it has been somewhat nomadic, staging satellite exhibits and holding walking or bus tours in Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Northridge and Pacoima, said museum President Scott Sterling.
"The big thing we're going to be doing is spotlighting the movies that were shot in the San Fernando Valley," Sterling said.
The grand opening, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m., will feature appearances from politicians, civic leaders and Nancy Cartwright, who provides the voice of Bart Simpson on long-running television comedy "The Simpsons." A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 5 p.m.
