A small West Lothian museum run by volunteers has won the coveted title of Scottish Tourist Attraction of the Year.
The Military Museum Scotland was set up by Ian Inglis and a group of volunteers at the Scottish War Blinded Centre at Linburn near East Calder. Ian and his team received the award at a ceremony in Edinburgh held in May by Visit Scotland.
Local Councillor Carl John raised a motion which was passed by West Lothian Council to invite Ian and his volunteers to a civic reception by way of congratulations.
Councillor John paid tribute to the hard work done in setting up the museum, at their own expense. He said: “It does not glorify war, rather it serves as a reminder of the horrors of war.”
The museum has also become a regular venue on the literary circuit for the launch of military history books and the team also open the doors every second Sunday offering “Veterans Breakfasts”.
