Matt Bellamy became a "full-time single parent for eight months" as his marriage to model Elle Evans broke down.
The Muse star is father to two children - one-year-old son George and daughter Lovella, five - with his estranged wife as well as 14-year-old son Bingham from his relationship with actress Kate Hudson - and he's now revealed the breakdown of his marriage last year led to him taking on more parenting duties.
He told The Sun newspaper: "I’ve been through a separation involving two young kids. I can’t really talk about the reasons behind it, but it was not your normal run-of-the-mill situation. I became a full-time single parent for a period of eight months."
He added of Elle: "She’s doing a lot better now and she’s getting better, but it was an unusual situation to go through."
Matt went on to reveal he poured his emotions over his personal life into writing Muse's new album The Wow! Signal but he's determined not to talk publicly about what went on in his marriage for the sake of his young children.
He said: "It made writing the album so much easier. It’s hard to talk about what’s behind the album because I don’t throw people under the bus. And I don’t want my kids to grow up reading stuff."
Matt added of his new songs: "Music became my catharsis. It became my way to understand my situation. Making this album gave me flashbacks to these periods where music was my everything.
"It wasn’t something I had to do to pay the bills. It wasn’t something I had to do for the record label. It was something that I had to do for myself.
"That’s why I think this album is probably, since the 2000s anyway, the most raw, emotionally raw and honest album I’ve done."
Matt and Elle started dating in 2015 after they met on the set of Muse's Mercy music video and they went on to marry in Malibu, California, in 2019.
However, the six-year union broke down in 2025 and they are believed to have separated in October.
A source previously told The Sun: "Matt and Elle quietly broke up last October, but their relationship is very amicable. They are now focused on co-parenting their children and still get on very well."
