Muscat set for Japanese coach job: report

Kevin Muscat will reportedly be named as Ange Postecoglou's successor at Yokohama F. Marinos. (AAP)

Kevin Muscat is reportedly set to replace fellow Australian Ange Postecoglou as coach of J-League side Yokohama F. Marinos.

Muscat will be named as Yokohama's new coach when the Japanese league pauses during next month's Tokyo Olympics, The Asian Game is reporting.

Muscat was sacked as coach of Belgian top-flight club Sint-Truiden last December.

The former Melbourne Victory coach had been in charge of the Belgian outfit since June last year but only won two of 14 league matches.

The Asian Game reports Muscat is poised to join Yokohama after performing a mandatory two-week quarantine in Japan during the Olympics, which start on July 23.

Yokohama was recently bundled out of Japan's League Cup by Consadole Sapporo in their first match since Postecoglou left to coach Scottish giants Celtic.

The Japanese club has appointed Hideki Matsunaga as caretaker coach.

Muscat has previously succeeded Postecoglou as a coach at club level, having taking over at Melbourne Victory when Postecoglou left in 2013.

Muscat enjoyed a succesful six-year stint in charge of Victory which included two A-League grand final wins, an A-League premiership and an FFA Cup.

Muscat quit as Victory coach in May, 2019.
