Murray Johnson given Manchester City chance as teenage Hibs keeper set for Premier League trial

Hibs starlet Murray Johnson is gearing up for a move to the Premier League, after joining title-chasers Manchester City on trial.

The teenage keeper is highly-rated at Easter Road and though he is just 16, he has already gained interest from some of English football's best.

Hibs have fielded interest from Everton in the 6ft 2in shot stopper but City have made their move after scouts identified him as a standout among his peers.

The Scotland youth international linked up with the City youth side at the Etihad Campus on Monday and will undergo a week-long trial.

Johnson has already gained experience of training with the first-team group at Hibs, working with coach Craig Samson and senior stoppers Ofir Marciano, Matt Macey and Kevin Dabrowski.

He penned his first ever senior contract with the Easter Road outfit last month, ensuring the capital club would command a fee — believed to be in the region of six figures — should Johnson depart.

Meanwhile, Hibs boss Jack Ross has heaped praise on the impact made by tireless wing-back Chris Cadden since his arrival last month.

The former Motherwell man joined the Hibees following a season in the U.S. with Columbus Crew and has wasted no time in cementing his place in Ross’ favoured starting XI.

Cadden’s showing during Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over Aberdeen was superb, with the Scotland cap a constant menace on the right flank, and his presence has allowed Hibs to utilise a 3-4-3 and play Martin Boyle in a more advanced role.

And Ross lauded: “Chris is not complicated as a player; you know exactly what you will get from him.

“However, he delivers it time after time. He is so reliable with respect to his fitness levels, energy and pace.

“He also has a consistency of delivery from wide areas. We have spoken about that and worked on that — and he is producing.

“The hunger he has to be successful at a club like Hibs is evident and he’s very much enjoying his football.”
