Murjan, Kid of Zanzibar: New Book by Kuwaiti Novelist Abdullah Ghloum al-Saleh

Novel Murjan, Kid of Zanzibar

Dar Al Farabi has recently published the novel "Murjan, Kid of Zanzibar," by Kuwaiti Novelist Abdullah Ghloum Al Saleh.

"Murjan bin Fairuz never thought something could force him to leave the nature he adored since he was a child…It's the slavery and slave trade that turned him into a commodity shipped in boats after being hunted like an animal in the forests,” reads an extract of the novel.

“He was put in a cage and thrown in the bottom of a ship that will travel for long distances far from the beautiful woman he loved, and always flirted in Swahili. When crossing rural villages and wooded routes leading to the Jozani forest, Murjan used to greet passersby saying 'Jambo Sana' (Hello) or 'Jambo Habari' (How are you). And when drivers of bull carriages offered to pick him up sometimes, he thanked them all the way saying Asanti Sana (thank you very much).”
