Murgitroyd names former ScottishPower exec as deputy chairman

Glasgow-based intellectual property group Murgitroyd has named former ScottishPower executive Willie MacDiarmid as its new deputy chairman.

MacDiarmid, 58, will take on the role from Edward Murgitroyd who became chief executive of the business in February.

Murgitroyd's board shake-up as it announces takeover of intellectual property rival

He served as Energy Retail Director with Scottish Power from 1989 until 2006 and later became chairman of Glasgow-based utility services firm Smart Metering Systems. MacDiarmid is currently chairman of Fallago Rigg, a joint venture between Hermes Capital and EDF Renewables, and chairman of Ogilvie Group, a Stirling‐based family owned business with interests spanning construction, fleet hire and IT.

Murgitroyd chairman Ian Murgitroyd said: “Willie possesses a wealth of expertise and experience and we are delighted to have been able to attract an individual with Willie's track record and credentials to join our board."

The changes to its board announced in February came as it announced the takeover of Southampton-based Chapman IP.

The firm split the chief executive and finance director roles with Edward Murgitroyd, after four years serving as CEO of the operating business, becoming CEO of Murgitroyd Group.
