A by election is to be held in the North Lanarkshire Council ward of Murdostoun, following the death of independent councillor Robert McKendrick in April.
Following his passing, Provost Jean Jones said: "I was very saddened to hear of the death of Councillor Robert McKendrick.
"Robert was a councillor who worked so hard for the people in the community he represented. He made a huge difference to the residents who needed his help and always stood up for them, and for what he thought was right.
"He often signed off his emails and letters with the phrase 'People Before Politics', and that really summed up his approach to his time as a councillor.
"He will be very fondly remembered by his fellow councillors and all our thoughts are with his family and friends."
Polls will open at 7am on Thursday and remain open until 10pm.
There are eight candidates - Robert Livingston Arthur, Independent; Nathaniel Edward Hugh Hamilton, Scottish Green Party; Cindy MacKenzie, Scottish Conservative and Unionist; Julie McAnulty, Independence for Scotland Party; Robert John McKendrick, Independent; Chris Roarty, Scottish Labour Party; Bill Ross, ReformUK - Changing Politics for Good; Julie Stachurska, Scottish National Party (SNP).
The ward of Murdostoun is currently served by three councillors - the SNP's Cameron McManus along with Louise Roarty and Nicky Shevlin, who both represent Labour.
